No longer are holidaymakers packing their bags for a two-weeks away, according to industry news source Travelmole, who say that the average family now takes approximately four short breaks a year. This poll, undertaken by Holiday Inn, clams that just over half of the 5,000 Brits who took part in the survey say they definitely would not be going on a two-week summer holiday this year.
It begs to be mentioned that this still leaves almost half of the participants not saying that they won't be going away for two weeks! And while as far as escorted tours are concerned there is a great choice for short-breaks and European trips that involve less flying time, our customers often really like to get to grips with a destination.
This means they are willing to spend more time on a tour, and spend money on getting excellent value from their trip. Many of our customers think very carefully about planning their trip, and having more time away, as they are looking for experiences - rather than just a few nights away.
Except for lower-income or very time-poor families who appreciate opportunities to have short-breaks, we really don't think fortnight holidays are dying out. There is so much to see and explore in the world that often, you cannot do a country or your holiday justice unless you spend a decent amount of time - whether 10 days or 21 - in your destination.
Our customers are looking for a travel experience, not a cheap 'mini-break'.
