Apparently, when the average consumer is faced with the expense of buying a new sofa or going on holiday for two weeks, they would rather choose the holiday, say travel association Abta. Now why doesn't this surprise me?
Abta has reported that members’ sales during the busy turn of year booking period were up 20%, while other retail sectors in the high street had shown a marked downturn. “You have to be in a pretty tough financial position not to go on holiday," said an Abta spokesperson.
"If it’s a choice between buying a new sofa or going on holiday, then the sofa can wait.” .
After all, the novelty of being able to sit down on a new sofa surely must wear off after the first 'sitting', whereas the pleasure gained on holiday and the memories you have afterwards are hard to beat!
