I just thought I'd let you know about a useful travel health tip, one that I recently shared with my mailing list and received some grateful feedback for! As you might know, I've just got back from a fabulous trip to Tasmania, and while there I found out from another travel agent this great way to protect against pesky mosquitoes.
This health tip is a natural method of reputedly staving off the dreaded 'mozzie' bites when travelling in destinations that they like to live and feed - something which can really turn a wonderful experience into a miserable one.
The agent told me that taking a particular B vitamin kept her from being eaten alive in India! She knew this method worked because as soon as her vitamin supply ran out after 4 weeks of being there, the mosquitos started to feast on her!
They are very fond of me also (it must be love), and any advice which helps keep them away is invaluable to me, otherwise I end up with itchy red blotches the size of 2 pence pieces all over my body.
Alas, when I probed further she couldn't remember which B vitamin it was, but I picked up the July issue of Holland & Barrett's 'healthy' magazine (incidentally, this is a magazine that I've written for in their travel section) - and by chance, the very same travel tip was in there.
The mozzie-repelling B vitamin, it appears, is vitamin B1 (thiamin), and the article says a daily dose should keep the pesky blood-suckers at bay. It will definitely be something I'll be trying the next time I'm heading to a destination where there is a risk of being bitten!
If you have any other great tips, please do let me know, and I hope this one works for you.
