For many people (me included), getting away from the inevitable anti-climax that comes with celebrating New Year's Eve in the UK sounds like a dream, especially if you are single. So, I've been digging out some exciting escorted tours and adventure tours that still have some availability this year - and the prices are not all that bad!
Bearing in mind how prices are usually hiked up for Christmas & New Year, escorted tours with some companies such as Explore! and The Adventure Company tend not to variate that much - so you can get away at this premium-priced period at pretty much the same cost as you'd get away with these companies year-round.
Escorted and adventure tours are especially suited for single people who often feel a bit left out over the festive period, since many won't add on a single supplement if you're prepared to share a twin-room with someone of the same-sex.
Some of the tours I've hand-picked for you include (but spaces will be limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!):
Discover South Island (New Zealand), 18 days (19/12/2008 - 05/01/2009 £2,785 GBP):
Incredibly priced tour (considering it is over Christmas and New Year!) to New Zealand's unspoilt South Island, which offers open spaces, breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife and a chance to cruise through the dramatic fjordlands.
Classic Kenya Safari, 15 days (20/12/2008 - 04/01/2009 £3,257 GBP):
A classic Kenya safari covering the major parks and reserves from the Rift Valley Lakes to the Maasai Mara. Staying in pre-erected walk-in ridge tents as well as luxury lodges, this safari combines the image and comfort of the old style African safari and the ultimate wildlife experience.
Jebel Sahro trek (Morocco), 8 days (21/12/2008 - 03/01/2009 £639 GBP):
When the high mountain passes of the Northern Atlas close in Autumn, you can move south into the Jebel Sahro, an area of variegated and surreal beauty inhabited by nomadic tribes. The Jebel Sahro is a contorted jumble of volcanic monoliths, gouged and chiselled to form stark canyons, mesas and plateaux. Dissected by verdant gorges like the Dades Valley, the mountains are dotted with ruined kasbahs and oases, providing shelter for hardy Berbers and the nomadic Ait Atta (Hotel/Camping/Village Houses - Winter Walking in the Atlas).
Backroads & Beaches of Cuba, 9 days (27/12/2008 - 04/01/2009 £1,587 GBP):
Western Cuba is an ideal destination for a shorter tour to this beautiful island. This tour combines the colonial atmosphere of Havana and Piñar del Rio with an overnight in the Cordillera de Guaniguanico, allowing time to visit both the Atlantic and Caribbean coast along with exploration of the fascinating scenery around Viñales.
All of these tours and many more are available on many other departure dates, please call Andrea on 0845 475 0342 to enquire. Please remember, demand is high at this time of year, especially at these prices, so do book early to avoid disappointment!
